Living in a retirement village, my wife, Eva, and I have become more aware of the possible eventual need for high care on the part of some of our fellow residents.

In other words, there may come a stage toward the end of one’s life when more intensive levels of support are needed — whether due to disability, a serious and chronic health condition, or frailty due to old age.

At the Renaissance Retirement Village in Victoria Point, Queensland, we are most fortunate to have Vacenti (Marebello) residential care facility adjacent to the Village.

This excellent facility has become the home for a number of residents who moved across from Renaissance. Being so close to Renaissance, makes it ideal for visiting if a spouse or partner needs high care while the other continues living in the Village.

We recently had a personally touching experience in this context. It was a quiet, peaceful Saturday afternoon when we first visited Marebello. As we introduced ourselves to the receptionist on duty, and picked up some informative brochures, we noticed an older couple nearby — the spouse was in wheelchair and looked frail. We said “hello” and began briefly chatting. To our utter astonishment, this was the couple who had previously lived for eight years in the same Villa at Renaissance that we were now moving into! I was deeply moved by this brief encounter — it showed me what can occur during the course of later life as health declines!

I am using Vacenti residential care as one example of a high care service provider. The website from which I have drawn information is as follows: https://vacenti.com.au/  Also, the Vacenti A-Z Guide is most informative, from which some of the following material has been taken:
