Alexander Peck

Three overarching themes emerge as Alexander looks at the landscape of his life: educationwriting and spirituality.

Education

After finishing high school in Victoria, Australia, Alexander entered Teacher’s College and received elementary school teaching credentials. In his third and final year, he specialized in school librarianship. Later, while living and working in the United States, he completed a Masters in Education, with an emphasis in instructional design, at California State University in Long Beach.

Writing

Apart from a few years of teaching, during most of his career, Alexander was engaged in writing – involving research, compiling information, editing, documentation writing, educational writing, and website creation.

Spirituality

Alexander’s life-long passion has been spirituality. After Teacher’s College, he went abroad to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree with an emphasis in theology, starting in England, and completing his degree in Pasadena, California.

While teaching English as a foreign language to first-year university students in South Korea, Alexander pursued PhD studies in Christian Education at Hoseo University, a private Christian school in Cheonan City. He completed all the course work and passed the qualifying exams.

However, due to circumstances at the time, he was unable to complete his dissertation on the topic of “The Spirituality of John Amos Comenius.” (Comenius was a Moravian philosopher, pedagogue, and theologian, and is considered the father of modern education.)

Between 2007 and 2010, Alexander completed two Master’s degrees through distance education with the University of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia – one with a theology emphasis, the other specializing in Christian spirituality.

Late in 2011, he encountered Buddhism through the teachings of Father Laurence Freeman OSB, a Catholic priest and Benedictine monk. In a series of talks, Father Freeman quoted from the Dhammapada. It was the spirituality of this collection of the Buddha’s sayings, and other Buddhist writings, that caught Alexander’s attention. He followed up with further Buddhist study for over a decade until the present time.

Now in his seventies, Alexander values quiet and peaceful lifestyle with his wife, Eva, and their adorable white cat, Whitey, on the bay side of Brisbane, Australia. He cherishes having time for sharing spirituality insights via his writing and websites — recognising that humanity has been gifted with a rich heritage of spiritual writings across a wide spectrum of faith traditions.
